Concrete repair and replacement

Spalled, cracked, sunken or broken, our current site says we have seen it all. The question is always the same: can it be repaired, or does it need to come out?

Cracks that are stable can be cleaned and sealed to keep water out. Surface scaling from salt can sometimes be resurfaced if the concrete underneath is sound. But slabs that have sunk, heaved or broken into pieces usually need to be cut out and replaced, because a thin overlay won't hold on concrete that is still moving.

We cut out damaged sections at joints so the new concrete looks intentional, fix the base underneath, dowel into the existing slab where needed and pour to match the surrounding grade and finish. Entry steps, stoops and landings are common repairs, and they are often a safety issue for customers and tenants.

Many of our commercial repair jobs are in active storefronts and offices. We barricade the work area, keep an entrance open when possible and schedule the pour so the area can reopen as soon as it's safe.

Can you just patch my broken steps?

Small chips can be patched, but steps that are cracked through or settling usually need to be replaced to be safe and last.

Will the repair match?

New concrete is lighter at first and weathers over time. Cutting at joints and matching the finish helps it blend in.
